A Destination Dining Experience at the Royal Mail Hotel

The Royal Mail Hotel offers an experience, you can’t get on the doorstep of suburbia. It’s worth every kilometre traveled to be immersed in a majestic, ancient landscape and be treated to food that travels metres not miles.

Step out of the car, inhale that first breath of clean country air, stretch your legs and catch your first glimpse of the mighty Mount Sturgeon – this is just the beginning of your Royal Mail Hotel experience.

Explore the property’s kitchen garden, and follow the chef’s as they explain the triumphs, trials and tribulations of growing food for the onsite restaurants. The garden-to-plate philosophy the dining room’s employ is simple, authentic and wholesome, and plays a huge part in the quality of the food.

Opt for a wine cellar tour and delve straight into the Royal Mail Hotel story. Rival the French varieties against the more local vineyards, and appreciate the notion of provenance. With an incredible 28,000 bottle wine cellar and a huge collection of wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux, the passion for good food and wine will start to ring true.

At night, observe Executive Chef Robin Wickens and his kitchen team from your table, transforming the garden’s produce into a beautiful dish. Watch the true garden-to-plate experience play out, while our sommeliers select a world-class wine to match. Be sure to accept the invitation to wander into the kitchen and chat with the chefs during dinner.

In the morning, venture to the Wonderland Trail and find the heritage-listed Immortal Red Gum on the Royal Mail’s Mount Sturgeon property. Estimated to be more than 418 years old, this tree has withstood the changing landscape of Dunkeld and surrounds. Meanwhile, the Native Wildlife and Conservation tour highlights the importance of respecting the land. Get up close and personal with some of Australia’s endangered native species.

The Royal Mail Hotel is not just a tale of food and wine – it’s an exploration of the elements that bring all the beautiful produce we are eating and drinking together. While your taste buds may have lead the way, there are plenty of other experiences that paint the entire Royal Mail Hotel picture. It’s destination dining plus.
