Acknowledgment of Country

In the spirit of reconciliation, Royal Mail Hotel acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land we are on, the Gunditjmara and Eastern Maar Peoples and their elders past, present and future.

During your stay, we ask you to join us in reflecting on this land’s cultural and spiritual importance, the impacts of colonisation, and the contribution we must each make to maintaining the culture and stories of this land whilst working to achieve reconciliation in our region and across our nation.

Aboriginal people have had an association with the Grampians for more than 30,000 years. Traditionally known as Gariwerd, the land is at the centre of creation stories for many of the Aboriginal communities in south-western Victoria. Discoveries of Indigenous Australian artefacts in the region include ancient oven mounds, scatterings of stone left over from tool making, and ancient rock art sites.
