Walk the Grampians Peaks Trail

A world-class, 160km hike of Gariwerd (Grampians National Park), is attracting visitors from all over the world.

Connecting the north and south of  the majestic mountain range, the Grampians Peaks Trail takes hikers over the Gariwerd peaks. Starting or ending at Wurgarri (Mount Sturgeon), with the trail just a block from Royal Mail Hotel, the hike takes 13 days and 12 nights, with 12 unique overnight campsites situated along the way.

The long-distance hike is not for the faint-hearted. As the name suggests, the hike involves climbing to the peaks of the Gariwerd mountains. It is worth every effort when the expansive views, rugged landscapes and kaleidoscopic sunsets appear. Top that off with bird watching in the day and starry skies at night and your hiking adventure will be remembered for years to come.

Hikers will experience the magic of the mountain range the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali people have called home for thousands of years. The ancient landscape is home to the largest number of Aboriginal rock art paintings and shelters in southern Australia. Interpretive signage placed along the trail will provide an insight into the cultural heritage and importance of Gariwerd to these people.

Day walkers can arrange pickups along the trail, or spend nights at the campsites along the way, which consist of wooden tent platforms or sandy pads, access to water (although not guaranteed – always bring your own) and other facilities.

With the hike starting or finishing so close to the Royal Mail Hotel, a night spent at the hotel will provide the perfect start or end to your adventure.
